Our Products & Process
We ONLY use professional-grade refinishing products – not those kits you find at Home Depot!
Many of our customers appreciate the added care we take to prevent overspray and ventilate the work area, and the Low VOC options we provide that produce less odor and are better for the environment.
Preparing the working area and the surface to be refinished are the most important steps in the refinishing process. Our refinishers will always assess what type of surface is being refinished and complete the needed preparation to ensure our product will adhere properly.
We also ALWAYS prime the surface and apply the proper amount of coats needed to create the thickness of product required by our manufacturer (usually 2 coats). We never cut corners or skip necessary steps that ensure the finished product is done right the first time, and produce the absolutely smoothest and shiniest coat possible.
Meet the Founders
Sterling Refinishing is the result of nearly 20 years of experience in the painting and fine finishing industry. Kaleb Houfburg began his career in Sun Valley, Idaho and was mentored by some of the best painters and craftsman in the industry. He worked on multi-million dollar homes, including Demi Moore’s Doll House, the Wrigley (gum) family, and a luxury condominium/business center in the heart of Ketchum, Idaho called Copper Ridge, where the quality of your work, pride of workmanship and a high level of customer service were a way of life.
Candys Houfburg brings the entrepreneurial spirit to this business. Together, Kaleb and Candys started their first painting company in 2005, which was eventually bought out when they were asked to partner with a large company and help build a new painting division in Seattle, Washington.
After a short period, they set out on their own again and built a successful Green Certified painting and refinishing company. In 2009, the company was closed due to economic issues that effected the construction industry and both Kaleb and Candys went back to college. After college, Kaleb continued to provide painting services and worked for two very talented craftsman who mentored him in construction and custom cabinet building, while Candys worked online managing a law firm in New York.
In 2015, Candys was offered a position managing a digital marketing company in West Palm Beach. Once relocated to Florida, Kaleb was immediately hired to work for a bathtub refinishing company based on his many years of experience spraying and his impressive work ethic. As anyone with Kaleb’s background in high-quality work and customer service would, he quickly realized that he wasn’t happy with the way the company he was working for was cutting corners and not providing the attention to detail that he knew he was capable of. So, he branched out on his own and moved the company to Jensen Beach. After word started getting around and the business started growing, Candys gave her notice at her marketing job and began working at their home office full time. She has used her skills in marketing, web design, systems and customer experience to streamline and grow the company.
